Cabin (240 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
8 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
A quiet place to stay in the woods for both people and their lucky pets—lucky dogs who might not be able to run free and play in the woods in a more urban or suburban setting. Our full kitchen allows for home cooking instead of leaving to eat every meal out in a restaurant. If you re house hunting, attending trainings or retreats, enjoying an outdoor holiday of hiking, biking or wine tasting, this is a great place for you and Fido (or Fida) to kick back. Our guests have enjoyed staying in the cozy apartment adjacent to my ceramics studio decorated with some of my finished ware. The unit is a 14x 19 room with sleeping accommodations in the upstairs loft. It has bathroom with shower and kitchenette that includes an 10 cu.ft. fridge and apartment size gas range with oven. Basic cooking and dining equipment are on hand for eating in. In the carpeted sleeping loft, a few steps up a fold-down ladder, are a queen size mattress and a twin size mattress. The loft is not suitable for young children. Downstairs, a couch opens into a double bed or can become the platform for a queen airbed. Wifi and a lockup for mountain bikes are included. The studio is situated on 10 wooded acres 3 1/2 miles, about 12 minutes, from Nevada City on a well-maintained county road. Just minutes away is a 500 acre tract of BLM land now known as the South Yuba Wild and Scenic Recreation area, with miles of trails perfect for hiking or mountain biking, even gold panning down at the South Fork of the Yuba River! These woods are lovely, dark and deep – private, quiet and ideal for stargazing! We live in the nearby main house with our rescued Doberman, Sweetie, and our cat Elf, so we would be open to the possibility of your pet as a guest. We ask that guests do not leave Fido (or Fida) home alone. If you must leave for a short while, we can provide a large, collapsible crate for your pet.

You can hike for 1/2 hour and never leave the property. At Rocky Top you will be reminded of a favorite setting in France or Italy. Cabin (650 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
9.1 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
Tara is a cozy, romantic and elegant cabin located in the Sierra Foothills at about 1800 feet elevation. It is 650 square feet of charm nestled into a pristine private sanctuary of 30 acres of pines, cedars, madrones, and oaks. Situated above Rock Creek, there are private swimming holes, waterfalls, and large granite flat rocks for sunbathing. This is a “too good to be true” place to get away from it all. You can hear the birds singing and water tumbling in the creek. A cathedral of trees caresses you as you sink into the solitude. Fall is in the air.! Some leaves are just beginning to change color. Daytime temps have lowered to 80's, with evenings cooling down into the 50's.. So come on up! These are perfect days for exploring the town, hiking or walking around our beautiful area, and returning to cozy cabin comfort. Or just enjoy a slow and peaceful day at the cabin, lying in the sun all year round, sitting near and floating in the creek, (the water is perfection!) reading or napping. Evenings are sweet in the fading light of the day, perhaps enjoying a glass of wine on the deck or just being toasty next to the woodstove, followed by a soak in the hot tub overlooking the creek. The cabin is one room with wooden beam ceilings and wooden floors, surrounded by windows with green tree-filled views and creek frontage. We have unsurpassed beauty in all directions from windows and decks. The cabin has french doors that open onto multi-leveled decks in back overlooking the creek. There is a small camp at Lover's Pool in Summer, with chairs, floats, chaise lounges, and an umbrella. Bring your food, a towel, your reading material, and stay for hours in heaven. Lover's Pool path to creek is steep in spots, with some steps, dropoff on one side, rope to hold across rocks. The swimming hole called The Baths is more easily accessed, but requires walking across granite rocks. ASK Property Manager about access, and difficulty factor. Our outbuilding called the Buddha Hut now sleeps 1 or 2 more in Queen Bed. Located across the parking area, and just opposite the cabin, it is light and airy, a perfect, sweet spot for extra friends. On the deck in warmer months are chairs, a chaise lounge, and a sail for shade. Guests can use the Compost Toilet and sink located in Buddha Hut overnight, but use the cabin bathroom for general use. Buddha Hut can be rented in conjunction with the cabin, but not rented separately to another party at the same time. Whether you choose to relax on the deck, cozy up to the woodstove on crisp evenings, dip in the swimming holes, sunbathe on the warm rocks in warmer months, or venture out to explore the historic sites of the Gold Rush towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, you will be enthralled by the relaxed pace and ambience of the area. Nearby, you can visit the old gold mines at Empire Mine State Park, or at Malakoff Diggins. Or visit the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport and see the covered bridge, scenic river overlooks, enjoy hiking trails, and incredible swimming holes, some with beaches. There is swimming, boating, canoeing and kayaking at nearby Scott's Flat Lake as well. There is also South Yuba River access at Purdon Crossing and Edward's Crossing near the cabin. A great base for snow exploration, Tara is 1/2hr. from free snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing up Hwy. 20. It is 45minutes - 1 hour from downhill skiing and other snow fun at Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Boreal, and Royal Gorge. 4wheel drive is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED when coming to Tara in Winter months. Although the cabin is usually below snow level, when it's storming, or snow or ice is present, it's best to be safe and prepared. Part of the road to Tara is gravel/dirt, and there is a paved, steep, final descent to the cabin. Paved area can get icy, as temps dip. Sand, ice melt, snow shovel on hand. Nevada City, a 12-15 minute drive away, has great shopping, and a variety of excellent eateries, from upscale fare to informal dining. The town also features live theater and music, bookstores, outdoor cafes and art galleries. It is well worth a visit to take a walking tour of this historic and charming Gold Rush town, have a bite to eat, and perhaps have a wine tasting at our many local winery shops. Grass Valley, like Nevada City, has many buildings dating back 100+ years, and is just a 18-20 minute drive from Tara. There are charming antique shops, restaurants, wine shops, the old Holbrooke Hotel, a movie theatre and two Cornish Pastie establishments, serving the favorite of gold miners long ago. The Center for the Arts is located on Main St., presenting wonderful live theatre and multi-cultural music events with top musicians. THIS PROPERTY IS FOR SALE. THE OWNERS ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING SOMEONE TO JOINTLY OWN OR TO PURCHASE THE PROPERTY. IF INTERESTED, PLEASE CONTACT JEANNIE FORD. (530) 955-1500. "Escape to Nature" Want to get back to nature? We have just the place for you. Reviews 5 out of 5 stars My stay at Geronimo Pole cabins was terrific. I stayed in the winter and our host Adam had a fire set up inside the cabin hours before we got there providing a warm cabin upon our arrival. The cabin was absolutely beautiful inside and out. The cabin I stayed in was a two bedroom with a beautiful living room and kitchen plus a fireplace inside. The cabin had everything I needed and more. The area is stunning as well. The second I arrived I knew I made a good decision choosing these cabins. It is very peaceful and secluded. Away from main road/populated areas I feel as if I could not have found a more peaceful campground for my weekend. There is so much hiking trails available that I was not able to explore them all on my 3 day stay. The trails all have beautiful views, with many hidden meadows along the way. I came there not knowing if I was going to stay more than one night, and Adam was accommodating enough to let me decide the next morning if I would stay another night, although once I saw the place I knew I would stay more than one night. With the beautiful cabins, the bountiful trails and wildlife, and a very reasonable price, I will definitely be coming back as often as possible and recommending to everyone I can. -Kevin Quigley I stayed at Geronimo Pole Cabins New Year's Eve weekend and will definitely be back. The cabin was not only beautiful but had everything we needed in it. Adam supplied us with linens for the bed, pots, pans, utensils and a fire pit for hanging out outside. His property is absolutely stunning. With so many trails you could spend the whole day outside. He recommends trails to take and gives you direction. There is a beautiful meadow where my boyfriend and I set up a hammock and relaxed for a while. We were lucky enough to get a full moon that night which lit up the whole outdoors, it was gorgeous. Adam is very accommodating, he tells you to come to him for anything you need and even offers a separate bathroom in his home for guests apart from the outhouse by the cabin. There are also stores nearby if you wanted to pick up any food or snacks you want during your stay. I will recommend this place to all my friends and family, there was nothing disappointing about it. Kid friendly and great for families and couples. It made our New Years Eve unforgettable. 5 out of 5 stars!! Melanie Clifford

Cottage (900 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
9.5 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
Look–a-Bird Farm is a six-acre homestead and artist’s residence, 10 minutes from Nevada City and less than 20 minutes from the popular Yuba River swimming areas. Our freshly remodeled guest cottage is a welcoming mix of rustic High Sierra style and sophisticated modern comforts! It adds up to a romantic getaway for couples, an exciting farm adventure for families, or a working retreat for writers, artists and other professionals. The Great Room in this 900-square-ft cottage includes a full gourmet kitchen and a dining area with a six-person table. The living area has plenty of comfortable seating, including a new queen-size pull-out sofa. The Great Room opens onto a large, private outdoor deck with relaxing lounges and a filtered view through the forest. The kitchen has a gas range, large island, dishwasher, microwave, etc. There is a coffee machine, plus press-pot and pour-over supplies. There is also a stacking washer-dryer. The separate bedroom has a comfy king-size bed with natural cotton bedding, and black-out Roman shades. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower with organic cotton towels. The kitchen, laundry and bath are supplied with natural, fragrance-free products for your use. Artwork by owner Nancy Mintz is on display throughout the cottage. There is also a useful library of local maps and guidebooks, plus a good selection of general literature. There is wifi, but no television. Cell reception is usually good. There is lovely hiking (birding, mushrooming, star-gazing, etc) right from the doorstep. Gold-panning tools, beach towels, and other outdoor equipment are available to use by prior arrangement. The cottage is completely separate from the main house. There is a circular driveway with ample parking for vehicles of any size. Shared space includes a sculpture garden with outdoor furniture and a hammock. There is also a fire pit, available for use during times of low fire danger. Fresh eggs and organic vegetables are available from the garden, depending on the season. NOTE: Though Airport Road is well-paved, the last half-mile is not plowed in winter. Snow at this altitude (3000’) is modest, however, and most vehicles have no trouble. There is usually someone present on the property, and we are always available to answer questions. Otherwise, you will enjoy plenty of privacy! Please note that this is an active farm and artist’s residence. While it is usually very peaceful (especially at night) there can be a lot activity during the day. This might include some vocalizing by farm animals vocalizing (there’s no rooster though!). The artist occasionally uses power tools in her studio (about 50 yards distant), and the sounds of farming or forest work may also be heard, depending on the season.

Cottage (1300 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
10.8 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
The Two Room Inn is your own charming Victorian cottage in the heart of Nevada City, a beautiful, historically preserved gold rush era town in the Sierra foothills. Step back in time ....just two and half hours from San Francisco. This beautiful, unique home was built in 1880 as a miner's cabin. Around the turn of the last century it was converted into a residence. At some time in its history it was a rectory and then late in the 20th century it was renovated yet again, took on its present 'castle' look, and was known as the Teddy Bear Castle due to the owners' large collection of antique teddy bears which were also the basis of the American Victorian Museum at the Miners Foundry in the 1980's. Lovingly restored to its present Victorian splendor and completed updated in 2004, it is now a perfect little Gothic Victorian gem from which to explore all that Nevada City and the environs have to offer. Walk out your front door, through the garden, and out the front gate, and you will find yourself in an amazing Victorian town, with beautiful historic homes, cafes, shops, galleries, wineries, and restaurants to suit every taste, all within a few blocks of your own beautiful cottage. Stroll around town and enjoy the ambiance, the art ( Nevada City has long been a haven for artists), the shops, and the mountain scenery. Stop for a coffee, breakfast or lunch maybe right across the street at the Broad Street Cafe, a snack at one of the yoghurt or ice cream shops, have lunch or dinner in one of the wonderful eateries in town, or come back to your own charming place and cook dinner at home. A short drive will bring you to the wonders of the Sierra foothills and the gold rush era. Beautiful scenery, pristine forests, river crossings with amazing swimming spots, hiking trails, and historic gold mining towns, some still with residents, some with only the local ghosts roaming the streets. Spring, summer and fall are gorgeous for outdoor activities. The fall foliage is magnificent, and winter brings its own charms. Nevada City's famous Victorian Christmas, celebrated throughout the month of December, draws visitors from all over. And the occasional snowfall blankets the town and countryside in white. Skiing is only an hour or so away, up Interstate 80 towards Truckee. If you want a more temperate climate to stay in and not have to go too far to ski, Nevada City is the perfect spot. If golf is your passion, there are three championship golf courses in Grass Valley and Auburn, just a short drive from the Inn. Nevada City, and it's close neighbor, Grass Valley, another vibrant historic town, host a wide variety of cultural activities all year long. There are music and art festivals, fairs, the Nevada City Fourth of July Parade, and the famous Nevada City Bike Race held in downtown Nevada City each year on Father's Day. The North Columbia Story Telling Festival, also held every year, has gained wide notoriety and draws folks from all over to hear some of the country's best storytellers. North Columbia, just a short drive from Nevada City, is a former gold rush town, now just a crossroads with the old two room schoolhouse converted to a community center as the venue for the festival. Check the local chamber of commerce web site for the schedules of all the events in the area. Whether you come for two or three days or a week or more, you will never lack for things to do, and you will always have your beautiful Victorian cottage to come home to. The cottage is fully equipped with all modern amenities, updated and modernized bathrooms and a full modern kitchen, heat and air conditioning, flat screen TV, WiFi, gas grill, washer/dryer, and two off-street parking spaces. But it also has all original stained glass windows imported from England, gorgeous redwood and elm interior, a fireplace built with cobblestones from Old San Francisco, a front deck surrounded by gardens, a private back yard, and a lovely balcony off the bedroom upstairs, with views down Broad Street - the perfect spot from which to watch the 4th of July parade, the Father's Day bike race, or just the comings and goings of Nevada City. The house is situated at the very edge of the commercial district, and so in the quiet part of town, but steps away from anything you might want to do in the village itself. Come experience the unique charms of this lovely home and its wonderful surroundings. Cancellation policy includes full refund if house can be rented to another party.

House (720 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
11 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
Romantic 1940s bungalow in historic downtown Nevada City. A perfect place for a weekend getaway, or longer term stays. Welcome to your home away from home! Step inside the handmade gate and up a few steps. Close the gate and come into your own private world, your own house and large yard. Inside, come into the kitchen, which has all the amenities, such as a gourmet Jenn-air range. There's an eat-in nook with a table and benches handmade by the owner, who is a woodworker and guitar builder. Come through into living room: with leather sofa, overstuffed leather arm chair and lounge chair and watch a movie from our selection or bring your own, to stay warm and cozy with a gas fireplace. The master bedroom (it's small, but lovely) has a queen bed, down comforter, a large closet, and goes through to the bathroom, which has both shower and bathtub. There's also a small second bedroom with a double bed. The whole house has lovely light from dawn until dusk. The floors are original Douglas Fir. There are skylights to let in light and ambient radiance. and yum -- warm radiant floors in the kitchen and bath! Outside, there is a large redwood (reclaimed wood) deck with an ozonated hot tub, and plenty of room for lounging. The barbeque has seen many a fine meal cooked on it, and it's great to hang out on the deck while cooking and enjoying a glass of wine. The yard is completely fenced for privacy while in the hot tub, and has a good view of the stars. The front yard has a small pond with waterfall, and an enormous wonderful old sycamore tree for a super relaxing space. There is parking behind the gates for two cars or a trailer, and also plenty of parking on the street. This house is the only one on the block so no one else ever parks in front -- we've had seven cars out there before! It's great if you have skiing or other equipment to park behind the gates and feel secure about it. We use all eco-friendly cleaning products! For sheets and towels as well as cleaning, for sensitive people. The owners are both well-known local musicians and artists, and have taken care to lovingly restore and improve this bungalow with lots of handmade details themselves. Wherever possible recycled and reclaimed materials have been used. Also special attention to green building and eco-friendly techniques have been given in order to promote sustainability. Walk to town to restaurants, shopping, and live theatre and music, or visit the nearby Yuba river with hiking, swimming and kayaking. Many street festivals and farmer's markets happen throughout the year and are great fun to walk to, whereas other people have to fight the parking for the big events. For example, all summer there are several local farmer's markets on Friday and Saturday, and the Summer Nights (a huge street party every Wednesday in July) ; Halloween always has lots of celebrations and costume events; in winter, there is the Victorian Christmas street fair with local arts and food for the Wednesday nights of December and the last Sunday before Christmas. There are several restaurants of very high quality downtown, and we are always happy to give recommendations. Drive only 30 minutes up scenic Highway 20 in the winter for skiing in the Tahoe/Donner region to be fully into the Sierras. Or just hang out in the hot tub and stare at the stars, make a dinner, and have a romantic getaway in a beautiful place. We would love you to enjoy our house, which we have lived for many years in and had many happy times. And we have lived in Nevada City for a long time, so we can offer you many insights and recommendations into the town and the region. Just ask! Keywords: House

You can walk to town (about 15 minutes) via several different paths or sidewalks. Unfortunately we no longer take one night reservations. We got de-ranked because we had to refuse so many requests because people didn't read the rules relative to one-night reservations: if it's up against another reservation we will do it in advance, otherwise only 3 days in advance. So now, unfortunately, we have only two-night reservations possible.

Cabin in Nevada City, CA
11.4 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
This is a beautifully forested 8 1/2 acre property at the end of a private 250 yard drive. The rush of Deer Creek greets you as soon as you climb out of your car. Because the property slopes down through the trees to the water you can sit on the deck and look off towards the opposite ridge or make your way down the stream and hang out among the sunlit boulders by the campsite. It feels wild down there and it is. Apart from the usual deer and raccoons, we've seen foxes and otters, bobcats and weasels, and have occasionally come across bear tracks. All of this and we're only minutes from the great restaurants and bistros in town, not to mention the four movie theaters in the area. As for the cabin itself, it is sheltered by firs and pines and sits well away from the main lodge-style home. There is also a beautiful campsite, complete with a tent, cots and bags, beside a large, tree shaded pool. You can spend a night roughing it, then shower in the cabin and have dinner out on the deck. But the biggest draw is the stream itself , which is filled with wild rainbow and brown trout. These are small stream fish, the largest going around 13 inches, and catch and release fly fishing is allowed. There are also three lakes within ten miles of us, not to mention the three forks of the gorgeous Yuba river (the north fork looks like New Zealand!). And just twenty minutes south of us is the South Yuba which boasts steelhead (in season) and huge rainbows and browns. And then there is tennis. There are any number of public courts, and pros who offer lessons, and two private clubs. And golf, a driving range only minutes away, and three big courses within twenty five minutes. As for skiing, Sugar Bowl and Boreal Ridge are forty minute away, the North Star resort ten minutes farther up the road in Truckee. Keywords: Cabin
