Cabin (450 sq. ft.) in North San Juan, CA
2.4 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
Located only 20 minutes from Nevada City and just off scenic State Highway 49, The Phoenix Cabin at Willow Springs is easy to find. No driving down unmarked dirt roads without cell service in the dark. The small air-conditioned cabin consists of a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and large back deck. Wifi is available, along with everything to make your stay comfortable. The front porch area includes space to store bikes, while the back deck features a patio table and BBQ grill. Cabin floor plan makes it best suited for a couple or small family. Our goal is to offer guests a unique and memorable experience. Willow Springs property is 3.7 acres that has been a residential community and artist hub through the years, and continues to host various artists of all stripes. The good vibe continues! As a guest at The Phoenix, you will have the freedom to explore the property and discover it’s hidden jewels. Willow Springs strives to be a model for social, ecological, and economic sustainability, so exploring the property you’ll find a myriad of interesting aspects as we continue to evolve. Witness the landmark hand-built Cobb wall, catch the local artists at work at Molly's Artist Barn, peek into Ruby's Honey Circle Farms, a one acre organic garden, (and purchase locally grown produce), explore your creative side with a ceramics class at Four Winds Ceramic Studio, enjoy a workshop or yoga class at The Heart Center, a yoga/meditation/meeting space or make arrangements for one of many alternative healers to give you a treatment at the healing studio (equipped with a murphy bed as a single room rental). We invite you to put away your cell phone and enjoy the abundance of fruit trees, birds, and meditation areas while, at the same time, respecting the space of the residents and tenants. Wild critters live here as well, and if you are lucky you may get a glimpse of a shy fox or hear it bark during the night. Not-so-shy raccoons check here regularly during the night. And occasionally bears or mountain lions are seen or heard in the area as well. Birders will enjoy the diversity of species found here at various times, attracted to the mulberries and bird feeders, such as hummingbirds, finches, bluebirds, pigeons, towhees, waxwings, nuthatches, hawks, acorn woodpeckers, and around the beginning of March large flocks of Sandhill cranes are in flight overhead on their migration route. Enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to the birds off the deck in the morning is magical. We live next door and are always available by mobile phone or by knocking on our door should you have any questions or need anything. This is your vacation, so even though we are friendly and quite social ourselves, we will let you set the level of interaction after your arrival and introduction to the property. This area offers so much to make your vacation special in terms of events and places. In seven minutes driving, the Oregon Creek swimming area provides a refreshing plunge on a hot day. Head south to the breathtaking waterway of the South Yuba River or go hiking and biking on one of many trails in the Tahoe National Forest. The picturesque downtowns of Nevada City and Grass Valley offer a "movie set experience" with plenty of restaurants and shops along the boardwalks. Here are some of our favorite places and things to do: Hiking and boating at Bullard's Bar Reservoir. Hiking and exploring Malokoff State Park. Swimming and picture taking at Yuba River State Park. Hiking and discovering old mining bridges at Independence Hiking Trail. Hiking and appreciating history at Bridgeport Covered Bridge. Attend a service at Ananda Village or attend their Tulip Festival in April. Attend the Sierra Storytelling Festival in July. Go wine tasting at Double Oak Winery. Shop at Mother Trucker’s organic market. Have a steak and baked potato at the famous Willow Steak House The Phoenix at Willow Springs is easy to find. From Nevada City, take the first right on School Street after passing the "North San Juan" sign on State Highway 49. Parking is available right in front of the cabin. This is a unique, colorful, and fun cabin from which to launch into your Sierra adventures.

A quiet place to stay in the woods for both people and their lucky pets—lucky dogs who might not be able to run free and play in the woods in a more urban or suburban setting. Our full kitchen allows for home cooking instead of leaving to eat every meal out in a restaurant. If you re house hunting, attending trainings or retreats, enjoying an outdoor holiday of hiking, biking or wine tasting, this is a great place for you and Fido (or Fida) to kick back. Our guests have enjoyed staying in the cozy apartment adjacent to my ceramics studio decorated with some of my finished ware. The unit is a 14x 19 room with sleeping accommodations in the upstairs loft. It has bathroom with shower and kitchenette that includes an 10 cu.ft. fridge and apartment size gas range with oven. Basic cooking and dining equipment are on hand for eating in. In the carpeted sleeping loft, a few steps up a fold-down ladder, are a queen size mattress and a twin size mattress. The loft is not suitable for young children. Downstairs, a couch opens into a double bed or can become the platform for a queen airbed. Wifi and a lockup for mountain bikes are included. The studio is situated on 10 wooded acres 3 1/2 miles, about 12 minutes, from Nevada City on a well-maintained county road. Just minutes away is a 500 acre tract of BLM land now known as the South Yuba Wild and Scenic Recreation area, with miles of trails perfect for hiking or mountain biking, even gold panning down at the South Fork of the Yuba River! These woods are lovely, dark and deep – private, quiet and ideal for stargazing! We live in the nearby main house with our rescued Doberman, Sweetie, and our cat Elf, so we would be open to the possibility of your pet as a guest. We ask that guests do not leave Fido (or Fida) home alone. If you must leave for a short while, we can provide a large, collapsible crate for your pet.

Cabin (650 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
9.1 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
Tara is a cozy, romantic and elegant cabin located in the Sierra Foothills at about 1800 feet elevation. It is 650 square feet of charm nestled into a pristine private sanctuary of 30 acres of pines, cedars, madrones, and oaks. Situated above Rock Creek, there are private swimming holes, waterfalls, and large granite flat rocks for sunbathing. This is a “too good to be true” place to get away from it all. You can hear the birds singing and water tumbling in the creek. A cathedral of trees caresses you as you sink into the solitude. SPRING has arrived in the Gold Country. The light feels different. New leaves are appearing. Daffodils and other flowers are out, fruit trees are blooming, grass is bright green. Oak leaves are a chartruese green! Still chilly nights, and days in the 60's and 70's, . So come on up! These are perfect days for exploring the town, hiking or walking around our beautiful area, and returning to cozy cabin comfort. Or just enjoy a slow and peaceful day at the cabin, lying in the sun all year round, sitting near and floating in the creek in warmer weather, (the water is perfection!) reading or napping. Evenings are sweet in the fading light of the day, perhaps enjoying a glass of wine on the deck or just being toasty next to the woodstove, followed by a soak in the hot tub overlooking the creek. The cabin is one room with wooden beam ceilings and wooden floors, surrounded by windows with green tree-filled views and creek frontage. There are only curtains on windows near bed, and all large windows are uncovered. There is unsurpassed beauty in all directions from windows and decks. The cabin has french doors that open onto multi-leveled decks in back overlooking the creek. There is a small camp at Lover's Pool in Summer, with chairs, floats, chaise lounges, and an umbrella. Bring your food, a towel, your reading material, and stay for hours in Heaven. Lover's Pool path to creek is steep in spots, with some steps, dropoff on one side, rope to hold across rocks. The swimming hole called The Baths is more easily accessed, but requires walking across granite rocks. ASK Property Manager about access, and difficulty factor. Our outbuilding called the Buddha Hut now sleeps 1 or 2 in Queen Bed. Located across the parking area, and just opposite the cabin, it is light and airy, a perfect, small sweet spot for extra friends. On the deck in warmer months are chairs and a sail for shade. Guests may use the Compost Toilet and sink located in Buddha Hut overnight, and use the cabin bathroom for general use. Buddha Hut may be rented in conjunction with the cabin, but not rented separately to another party at the same time. Whether you choose to relax on the deck, cozy up to the woodstove on crisp evenings, dip in the swimming holes, sunbathe on the warm rocks in warmer months, or venture out to explore the historic sites of the Gold Rush towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, you will be enthralled by the relaxed pace and ambiance of the area. Nearby, you can visit the old gold mines at Empire Mine State Park, or at Malakoff Diggins. Or visit the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport and see the covered bridge, scenic river overlooks, enjoy hiking trails, and incredible swimming holes, some with beaches. There is swimming, boating, canoeing and kayaking at nearby Scott's Flat Lake as well. There is also South Yuba River access at Purdon Crossing and Edward's Crossing near the cabin. Heading up to higher elevations to view the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains, check out Donner Lake and the historic town of Truckee, is a delightful day away. A great base for snow exploration, Tara is 1/2hr. from free snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing up Hwy. 20. It is 45minutes - 1 hour from downhill skiing and other snow fun at Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Boreal, and Royal Gorge. 4wheel drive is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED/ ESSENTIAL when coming to Tara in Winter months. Although the cabin is usually below snow level, when it's storming, or snow or ice is present, it's best to be safe and prepared. Part of the road to Tara is gravel/dirt, and there is a paved, steep, final descent to the cabin. Paved area can get icy, as temps dip. Sand, ice melt, snow shovel on hand. Nevada City, a 12-15 minute drive away, has great shopping, and a variety of excellent eateries, from upscale fare to informal dining. The town also features live theater and music, bookstores, outdoor cafes and art galleries. It is well worth a visit to take a walking tour of this historic and charming Gold Rush town, have a bite to eat, and perhaps have a wine tasting at our many local winery shops. Grass Valley, like Nevada City, has many buildings dating back 100+ years, and is just a 18-20 minute drive from Tara. There are charming antique shops, restaurants, wine shops, the old Holbrooke Hotel, a movie theatre and two Cornish Pastie establishments, serving the favorite of gold miners long ago. The Center for the Arts is located on Main St., presenting wonderful live theatre and multi-cultural music events with top musicians. COVID-19 INFO FOR CABIN. House (3600 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
9.1 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
We are following Covid-19 state guidelines including spacing our bookings and highest cleaning/sanitation standards. This is a truly special house. It was lovingly designed, built and lived in happily by famous Hollywood actor (Mash, Naked Gun,) and his artist wife for more than 35 years up until we bought the property in 2019. This is an elegant, creative, understated, beautifully sited, south facing home designed on a 25 acre natural estate, surrounded by an additional 100 acres of raw land. We worked with a well loved Bay Area interior architect to make it beautiful and contemporary for our family and our guests. The house is passively heated and cooled so it stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Everything from the terra cotta floor tiles in the Great Room and Kitchen to the handmade ceramic sinks in the Bathrooms and Kitchen were carefully selected. The landscape design is masterful and mature. The kitchen has an industrial 8 burner Wolf Range and wonderful island, fully setup to chef beautiful meals with your friends and family from locally sourced farmers and ranchers. Art throughout is original work by Marc, his father Mike and from the collection of the previous owners of the home. We are truly blessed to share this special home with you. Please be our guest you are welcome to enjoy it as we do. Get out of the city, the noise, the hustle, the grind. Relax and connect to nature, trees, plants, birds, animals, water, earth, air, and with your friends and family. We respect our neighbors, neighborhood, community, property, land. We love to host those and only those who share those values. A portion of every stay will benefit a local non-profit. Seeking the chance to escape the city? Take a trip through Historic Grass Valley into the country to Nanny's House. Stop at Bitney Spring to fill up on refreshing spring water along the way. You'll know when you have arrived when you smell the fresh scent of Pines and Mountain Mahogany streaming through the air. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath, ranch style home, on acreage, in the Sierra Foothills has been in our family for decades. You will have access to 2+ acres, as shown in the photographs. The grandchildren have magical memories of running through the fields, fishing in the pond, lazing in the hammock under a shady tree, sun bathing on the spacious deck, making homemade ice cream, swimming & rock jumping at the local swimming holes, lively dinner parties in the evenings with a musician or two, and the sounds of frogs chirping at night. It is known as the "Froggy Pond", a place a kid can be kid, a dog can swim all day and adults can simply kick back and enjoy! The home has a large open floor plan kitchen, dining room and living room. You'll find everything you need to cook a gourmet meal. The large dining table is perfect for large dinner parties and holiday meals. Glass French doors overlook sprawling lawns, shady trees and the pond below. A large covered porch spans the front of the house and spills out on the spacious deck. The house is perfect for one to two families to enjoy. Outdoor fun includes: catch and release fishing in the pond (bring your own poles), disc golf basket, corn hole, bocce ball on the lawn, and more... Although you might never need to leave the property. There are numerous sites to see in the area. The Sierra Foothills are known for their spectacular hiking, and mountain bike trails. Many wineries are within a short drive. Our favorite summer swimming hole at Bridgeport - South Yuba River State Park (6 miles away). Downtown Grass Valley (6 miles away) and Downtown Nevada City (7 miles away) are a pleasure to stroll through with boutique shops, a variety of restaurants, wine tasting, galleries, saloons and the best candy store you'll ever lay your eyes on (Lazy Dog Chocolateria). You might want to catch a film in town at the historic Del Oro Theater. If you're a California history buff you'll enjoy a trip to the Empire Mine State Park. A care taker is available should you find the need something, or simply want some local tips on sites to see. They are part of the family, and live on a separated part of the property at the other side of the creek. You may see them from time to time crossing the bridge on their way to their vegetable garden, or out irrigating the lawns. They will respect your privacy, as we know you will respect theirs. "Escape to Nature" Want to get back to nature? We have just the place for you. Reviews 5 out of 5 stars My stay at Geronimo Pole cabins was terrific. I stayed in the winter and our host Adam had a fire set up inside the cabin hours before we got there providing a warm cabin upon our arrival. The cabin was absolutely beautiful inside and out. The cabin I stayed in was a two bedroom with a beautiful living room and kitchen plus a fireplace inside. The cabin had everything I needed and more. The area is stunning as well. The second I arrived I knew I made a good decision choosing these cabins. It is very peaceful and secluded. Away from main road/populated areas I feel as if I could not have found a more peaceful campground for my weekend. There is so much hiking trails available that I was not able to explore them all on my 3 day stay. The trails all have beautiful views, with many hidden meadows along the way. I came there not knowing if I was going to stay more than one night, and Adam was accommodating enough to let me decide the next morning if I would stay another night, although once I saw the place I knew I would stay more than one night. With the beautiful cabins, the bountiful trails and wildlife, and a very reasonable price, I will definitely be coming back as often as possible and recommending to everyone I can. -Kevin Quigley I stayed at Geronimo Pole Cabins New Year's Eve weekend and will definitely be back. The cabin was not only beautiful but had everything we needed in it. Adam supplied us with linens for the bed, pots, pans, utensils and a fire pit for hanging out outside. His property is absolutely stunning. With so many trails you could spend the whole day outside. He recommends trails to take and gives you direction. There is a beautiful meadow where my boyfriend and I set up a hammock and relaxed for a while. We were lucky enough to get a full moon that night which lit up the whole outdoors, it was gorgeous. Adam is very accommodating, he tells you to come to him for anything you need and even offers a separate bathroom in his home for guests apart from the outhouse by the cabin. There are also stores nearby if you wanted to pick up any food or snacks you want during your stay. I will recommend this place to all my friends and family, there was nothing disappointing about it. Kid friendly and great for families and couples. It made our New Years Eve unforgettable. 5 out of 5 stars!! Melanie Clifford

Our freshly remodeled guest cottage is a welcoming mix of rustic High Sierra style and sophisticated modern comforts! It adds up to a romantic getaway for couples, an exciting farm adventure for families, or a working retreat for writers, artists and other professionals. The Great Room in this 900-square-ft cottage includes a full gourmet kitchen and a dining area with a six-person table. The living area has plenty of comfortable seating, including a new queen-size pull-out sofa. The Great Room opens onto a large, private outdoor deck with relaxing lounges and a filtered view through the forest. The kitchen has a gas range, large island, dishwasher, microwave, etc. There is a coffee machine, plus press-pot and pour-over supplies. There is also a stacking washer-dryer. The separate bedroom has a comfy king-size bed with natural cotton bedding, and black-out Roman shades. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower with organic cotton towels. The kitchen, laundry and bath are supplied with natural, fragrance-free products for your use. Artwork by owner Nancy Mintz is on display throughout the cottage. Otherwise, you will enjoy plenty of privacy! Please note that this is an active farm and artist’s residence. While it is usually very peaceful (especially at night) there can be a lot activity during the day. This might include some vocalizing by farm animals vocalizing (there’s no rooster though!). The artist occasionally uses power tools in her studio (about 50 yards distant), and the sounds of farming or forest work may also be heard, depending on the season.

Cottage (1300 sq. ft.) in Nevada City, CA
10.8 miles from New Bullards Bar Reservoir
The Two Room Inn is your own charming Victorian cottage in the heart of Nevada City, a beautiful, historically preserved gold rush era town in the Sierra foothills. Step back in time ....just two and half hours from San Francisco. This beautiful, unique home was built in 1880 as a miner's cabin. Around the turn of the last century it was converted into a residence. At some time in its history it was a rectory and then late in the 20th century it was renovated yet again, took on its present 'castle' look, and was known as the Teddy Bear Castle due to the owners' large collection of antique teddy bears which were also the basis of the American Victorian Museum at the Miners Foundry in the 1980's. Lovingly restored to its present Victorian splendor and completed updated in 2004, it is now a perfect little Gothic Victorian gem from which to explore all that Nevada City and the environs have to offer. Walk out your front door, through the garden, and out the front gate, and you will find yourself in an amazing Victorian town, with beautiful historic homes, cafes, shops, galleries, wineries, and restaurants to suit every taste, all within a few blocks of your own beautiful cottage. Stroll around town and enjoy the ambiance, the art ( Nevada City has long been a haven for artists), the shops, and the mountain scenery. Stop for a coffee, breakfast or lunch maybe right across the street at the Broad Street Cafe, a snack at one of the yoghurt or ice cream shops, have lunch or dinner in one of the wonderful eateries in town, or come back to your own charming place and cook dinner at home. A short drive will bring you to the wonders of the Sierra foothills and the gold rush era. Beautiful scenery, pristine forests, river crossings with amazing swimming spots, hiking trails, and historic gold mining towns, some still with residents, some with only the local ghosts roaming the streets. Spring, summer, and fall are gorgeous for outdoor activities. The fall foliage is magnificent, and winter brings its own charms. Nevada City's famous Victorian Christmas celebrated throughout the month of December, draws visitors from all over. And the occasional snowfall blankets the town and countryside in white. Skiing is only an hour or so away, up Interstate 80 towards Truckee. If you want a more temperate climate to stay in and not have to go too far to ski, Nevada City is the perfect spot. If golf is your passion, there are three championship golf courses in Grass Valley and Auburn, just a short drive from the Inn. Nevada City, and it's close neighbor, Grass Valley, another vibrant historic town, host a wide variety of cultural activities all year long. There are music and art festivals, fairs, the Nevada City Fourth of July Parade, and the famous Nevada City Bike Race held in downtown Nevada City each year on Father's Day. The North Columbia Story Telling Festival, also held every year, has gained wide notoriety and draws folks from all over to hear some of the country's best storytellers. North Columbia, just a short drive from Nevada City, is a former gold rush town, now just a crossroads with the old two room schoolhouse converted to a community center as the venue for the festival. Check the local chamber of commerce web site for the schedules of all the events in the area. Whether you come for two or three days or a week or more, you will never lack for things to do, and you will always have your beautiful Victorian cottage to come home to. The cottage is fully equipped with all modern amenities, updated and modernized bathrooms and a full modern kitchen, heat and air conditioning, flat screen TV, WiFi, gas grill, washer/dryer, and two off-street parking spaces. But it also has all original stained glass windows imported from England, gorgeous redwood and elm interior, a fireplace built with cobblestones from Old San Francisco, a front deck surrounded by gardens, a private back yard, and a lovely balcony off the bedroom upstairs, with views down Broad Street - the perfect spot from which to watch the 4th of July parade, the Father's Day bike race, or just the comings and goings of Nevada City. The house is situated at the very edge of the commercial district, and so in the quiet part of town, but steps away from anything you might want to do in the village itself. Come experience the unique charms of this lovely home and its wonderful surroundings. We also have a special, mid-week (Sunday to Thursday) one night rate for two people, of $225, inclusive of everything. Please contact the owner to book this special rate. Cancellation policy includes a full refund if the house can be rented to another party.
